KUALA LUMPUR: Men won’t travel for love – that is the reason for the low success rate of Wanita MCA Cupid Space.
Peggy Lim, who is in charge of the project, said more men were asking thattheir prospective dates live not more than 50km away from their homes.
“This is because many men think it is very inconvenient for them if they have to travel far, especially during festive seasons, or if the girl’s family is living in another state.
“There was even a guy fromKlang who thought a date from Cheras would be too far for him,” she told a press conference to announce the annual Cupid Space Speed DatingHi-Tea Party here yesterday.
The Cupid Space, set up in 2001with the objective of encouraging more marriages among eligible Chinese, has organised 94 matchmaking activities.
However, it has a low success rate of just 7% in matchmaking single people.
Wanita MCA chief Datuk Yu Chok Tow said so far, 191 couples who met through the programme, had either married or were dating.
“This year alone, 18 couples have found their partners through our programmeand requested us to remove their information from our database,” shesaid.
She said Cupid Space now had 4,177 registered members, 67% of whom were women.
“However,in the past three months, there are more men registering, especially since the application form is available online through our blog www.cupidspacedating.com,” she said, adding that this trend was a positive development as it allowed for more couples to be matched.
Yusaid the hi-tea party would be held on Dec 19 from 11am to 3.30pm atthe Tropicana Golf & Country Resort in Petaling Jaya.
“Weare expecting 250 participants aged between 25 and 42. The fee is RM160each,” she said, adding that they must first register as Cupid Space members, which cost RM50 for three years.
Those interested can register at the Cupid Space counter at Level 7, Wisma MCA, on Dec 4 and 5, and Dec 11.
They will have to bring a photocopy of their MyKad, a passport-sized photograph and a 3R sized photograph for a Commisioner of Oaths declaration.
Those who are divorced or widowed, will also have to bring a copy of the divorce petition or decree nisi certificate, or the death certificate of the deceased spouse.
Only those who are legally single are allowed to participate.
The closing date for registration is Dec 12.
